Southern Comfort is a fruit and spice whiskey liqueur created in 1874 by New Orleans barman M.W.Heron. Produced from a secret recipe containing whiskey, peach, apricot, orange, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon, Southern Comfort has become a global favourite with more than 26 million bottles sold in 65 countries annually.
Southern Comfort is so incredibly unique that there is much contention about where it falls on the spirit spectrum. Some say the 'So Co' identity as a bourbon lies only in its origins, where Heron was attempting to improve a batch of truly awful whiskey. Others maintain that Southern Comfort is actually more congruently classed as a peach liqueur. However, all agree that Southern Comfort iconoclastically manages to flirt with both sides of the whiskey/liqueur fence, earning itself accolades as one of America's finest whiskeys and one of the world's most celebrated liqueurs.
Tasting Note: Translucent bronze. Vaporous, perfume, and orange blossom. Smooth, medium-to full-bodied palate of thin, candied orange, pitted fruit, marshmallow candy, and brown spices. Spice and tropical fruit lingers.
