Johnnie Walker The Gold Route is the Second release of the new Explorers Club Collection inspired by John Walker's pioneering travel around the world to establish markets for his whiskies back in the 1800's. Gold Route takes its inspiration from the journeys made by the Walker family through central America, across the Andean Mountain and down into Latin America.

The exotic Latin American spices and fruit flavours come through right from the start. With aromas of fresh banana, sweet vanilla, mango, and papaya. The first sip dives right into the heart of Latin America, with notes of tropical fruits and spices. As the flavour evolves so does the smoothness all perfectly balanced by deep charred peaty notes keeping with the signature Johnnie Walker flavour. The Gold Route is a blend of Johnnie Walkers finest aged whiskeys, gently matured in old American Oak casks. The Gold Route is best enjoyed with a drop of water to release the subtle smokiness.

"Much of this blend is truly the stuff of golden dreams. Like its explorer club stable mate, some attention has to be paid to the disappointing finish. Worth sending out an expedition, though, just for the beautiful nose and delivery."

Tasting Note: The nose has notes of mango, ripe banana, pitaya and a hint of vanilla. The taste is smokier and peatier than most Johnnie Walker expressions, and the fruity notes go deeper. Currant and raisin emerges with smooth and distinct smokiness.

My dad collects whiskey for his bar and this was one of the last bottles he wanted. He was very pleased as this bottle has sentimental value.
