The Balthasar Shiraz Viognier is part of Grant Burge’s ‘Wines of Distinction’ range, and rightly so. An homage to the elegance of the Eden Valley region of the Barossa, Balthazar is a blend of Shiraz and Viognier; two varietals for which the region is renowned.
With this wine Grant is looking to produce a Barossa wine using some European wine making techniques to further enhance the versatility of Barossa Shiraz. Balthazar is ready for enjoyment now and will reward from careful cellaring for up to 7 years.
The European styling suggests the wine is an ideal accompaniment to food and should be enjoyed with flavoursome dishes such as char-grilled sirloin with king brown mushroom and black truffle butter.
Tasting Note: Nose shows aromas of violets, ripe red berry flavours, dried woody spices as well as hints of dark chocolate, old polished leather, ash and the earthiness of chocolate truffles. The palate is velvety with round raspberry fruit.
