2014 and 2015 Vintage available - please specify in your order comments if you have a vintage preference.

The Balthasar Shiraz, one of Grant Burge’s Wines of Distinction, is sourced from the Eden Valley region of the Barossa, showcasing elegance and varietal definition from this cooler part of the district.

Four individual parcels from three premium Eden Valley vineyards were picked separately with each batch receiving a unique fermentation regime. Extended time on skins added to the depth of flavour and silky tannin structure. After pressing, the wine was transferred to new (50%) and older French oak hogsheads for 21 months' maturation.

Ruby red in colour with intense violet hues, the Balthasar Shiraz is a sultry, brooding and complex wine with decadent and luscious characters. Powerful aromas of black pepper and nutmeg, dusting chocolate and ripe plums are accompanied by notes of vanilla and smoked meats from the French oak.

The rich and generous full-bodied palate is dense with flavours of spice, plums and raspberries, while the elegant, fine tannins give balance, power and length. A benchmark Eden Valley Shiraz, this wine is immediately approachable yet can be cellared for up to 15 years. The soft silky tannin profile of this wine makes it an ideal accompaniment to a multitude of pork, game and red meat dishes.

Tasting Note: Nose shows aromas of violets, ripe red berry flavours, dried woody spices as well as hints of dark chocolate, old polished leather, ash and the earthiness of chocolate truffles. The palate is velvety with round raspberry fruit.
