Originally confined to the duty-free market, the non-age statement Talisker 57° North has blasted clear of its shackles and is now belting privileged palates around the country. Bottled at 57% ABV to reflect the labels name and homage to the 57° North latitude of the distillery on the Isle of Skye, this American Oak matured Talisker is a veritable powerhouse!

Nosed neat the power is menacing; quintessential Talisker peppered-oak lies and a small pod of vanilla. Tasting brings spice, smoke, peat and a hot woodiness that makes your ears bulge, then coolness, then heat again. Released the clean Talisker character; sweet, aromatic, tongue coating, well balanced, warming, great swallow.

Perhaps the most apt description we've happened across thus far... "There's a subtle citrus fragrance and a whiff of the ocean in this too! The only way to describe it is to imagine French kissing Fidel Castro while some salty old sea dog tells bawdy jokes in your ear."

"A juicy, coastal imbued nose of barley along with hints of boiled sweets and sugared almonds...Charred toffee and vanilla with a whack of peat and chilli coming through on the palate and in the finish. Superb stuff. A serious wake up dram!" - World Whisky Awards

Tasting Note: Clean and intense, with light smoke. Creamy toffee balanced by fruit. Hints of seaweed, heather blossom and vanilla. Sweet to start with smoke and tar. Tingling with the signature Talisker pepperiness at the finish.

    Talisker goodness

Published by Ben on 28th Aug 2020

Loving the 10yo and storm varieties, I thought I’d try out the promise of a stronger Talisker. I wasn’t disappointed with all the expected Talisker smokiness and brine.
Whilst it definitely packs a punch, it doesn’t have the smooth finish of other bottles you can purchase for the same price range. A splash of water definetly mellows this drop. But that’s besides the point when you love the flavours that Talisker brings like I do.
It feels like it’s probably just a cask strength 10/storm...but that’s fine by me...and I have only just cracked the bottle.
I’m looking forward to see how it develops over the next few tastings.
