Nikka Yoichi 2000s Single Malt Cask Strength Japanese Whisky 500ml
The Yoichi distillery is the older of Nikka’s two distilleries and was built in 1934 in the northern town of Hokkaido, the site was chosen by Nikka founder Masataka Taketsuru because of the similar environmental conditions to the Islay region of Scotland. Yoichi single malts are known for their pleasant peaty notes and smokiness originating from the traditional direct coal-fired distillation as well as a briny hint delivered by the sea breeze during the aging process.
The 2000s is a blend of malt whiskies distilled at Yoichi between 2000 and 2009, a limited release 500ml bottling at 57% abv.
Tasting Note: Pleasant peaty notes and smokiness with a briny hint delivered by the sea breeze during the aging process.
Nikka All Malt Blended Japanese Whisky 700ml
The Nikka All Malt is the result of a blend of Yoichi and Miyagikyo pot still single malts, along with an original Coffey malt whisky from Miyagikyo. Although made from 100% malted barley, a portion of this malt is distilled in Coffey column stills normally used for grain whisky production and as such, the All Malt is categorised as a blended whisky. Nikka distillery has again forged ahead to marry traditional processes with new concepts to deliver groundbreaking whiskies into the global market.
Pair with light meat dishes. Drink straight, on the rocks, or highball.
Tasting Note: Burnished gold colour. Lively nose. Slightly smoky evolving towards fresh grass and ripe fruit aromas. Soft texture contrasts with the liveliness of the nose. Liquorice, oak and spice on the palate. Finish opens up on exotic fruit and floral notes.
