Description

Pair with eggplant parmigiana and pasta dishes. Drink now through 2020.

A full flavoured, early drinking Shiraz. Benchmark articulates the definition of generously proportioned yet approachable Barossa blended Shiraz. Immensely satisfying with vibrant varietal expressions of ripe plum and soft cherry spice, Benchmark is fashioned for the red wine enthusiast with the focus on everyday enjoyment.

Grant Burge's extensive network of vineyards and growers guarantees access to the finest quality fruit, harvests of fully ripe Shiraz exhibiting outstanding flavour and balance. Burge has taken an active interest for decades in developing and nurturing sites that allow for maximum development of varietal Shiraz characters and concentration of flavour. Selecting the best grapes, much of the fruit from traditional winemaking families. Fruit is crushed, de-stemmed and transferred to fermenters for a week of vinification. Upon completion of malolactic, batches are transferred to older American and French oak hogsheads for ten months maturation and the final assemblage.

Tasting Note: Medium red black. Nose of brown oak spice over raspberry and redcurrant fruit. Taste quite spice driven yet supported by red and black fruit flavours. Anise and fennel lift over Cherry Ripe, while bright acidity provides balance and lift.
