Typically a three punch combo of base spirit, sugar and citrus - the simple sour template is the blueprint for countless classic cocktails from the Margarita to the Daiquiri. This Whisky Sour recipe has a couple of extra riffs thrown in for an updated take on this much loved classic.


  • 60ml Islay Whiskey (some delicious examples below)
  • 15ml lemon juice 
  • 15ml sugar syrup 
  • 1 egg white 
  • Cubed ice 
  • Maraschino cherry and orange slice

How To

  • Put lemon juice, sugar syrup and egg white into shaker for a dry shake (no ice)
  • Shake hard for 10 seconds which will create a frothy mixture
  • Add Islay whisky in glass with cubed ice
  • Pour frothy mixture into glass
  • Add 1 dash of bitters to glass
  • Garnish with cherry and orange slice
