HISTORY
Rum has been woven into the Caribbean’s cultural fabric since the 17th century, when it was first distilled on the sugarcane plantations. Its rich, diverse history includes colonialism, slavery and the beginnings of capitalism. Ron Barceló, the Dominican Republic’s leading rum, was first created when Julian Barceló, a young Spaniard, arrived in Santo Domingo in 1929 with a dream to create the finest rum in the world.
Today, Ron Barceló still offers this commitment to excellence, with Barceló the only Dominican rum to be made with the juice of sugar cane, which provides its characteristic smoothness.

BEGINNINGS
In 1929, a young Spaniard by the name of Julian Barceló arrived in Santa Domingo with a dream to produce the world’s finest rum. He soon began producing and distributing all around the country.
In 1950, after years of experimenting, launching different brands in the local market, the company launched the Ron Barceló brand with the Barceló Blanco and Dorado products, which immediately saw success. About 20 years later, the company added Ron Barceló Añejo to its portfolio.

A NEW LEGACY
In 1974, Don Julián Barceló left the legacy of the business to his nephew Miguel Barceló. 6 years later, in 1980, Ron Barceló Imperial was born: The Premium Rum of the Dominicans. Ever since its launch, Imperial has become the leader of its segment and is currently Dominican Republic's most awarded rum globally.
Seeking to expand its brand, in 1995 Barceló & Co. gave Spanish entrepreneurs - who had extensive experience in the production of wines and spirits, the right to export Ron Barceló launching the global brand Ron Barceló SRL. In 2006, after having been present in 25 international markets, Ron Barceló SRL fully acquired the Ron Barceló brand. The Barceló Diaz family and the García family remain on the board of directors as its third generation.

FUTURE FOCUSED
In 2006, Ron Barceló SRL initiated the bottle redesign of Ron Barceló Imperial, Gran Añejo and Añejo. This began a new stage in which the brand worked to offer consumers new ways to enjoy the best Dominican rum. At present, Ron Barceló SRL continues to produce only and exclusively Ron Barceló. The company has a presence in more than 50 countries and is positioned as the fourth largest exporter of rum globally.
