The Robert Oatley Signature Series draws on a remarkable portfolio of vineyards nurtured by the winemaking talent of Larry Cherubino showcasing Australia’s most successful wine styles and regions. Bob Oatley’s mantra is that all wines should be a “darned good drink”, and the high quality Signature Series delivers immediate appeal, with satisfying flavours over an elegant frame. Each wine embodies the grape varietal and region in which it was grown.
Grapes from the northern end of Margaret River, primarily around Wilyabrup, were harvested at ideal flavour and tannin ripeness, fermented then matured for ten to twelve months in a combination of new and older French oak from a variety of coopers. A very good growing season has helped deliver well-balanced wines that will develop gracefully in bottle. The outstanding balance of berries and cherries, work well with the dried leaves notes. A subtle Smokey hint comes through towards the finish. The tannins are fine, and gravelly. The result is a reflection of an outstanding year with an impeccable process.
''Bright crimson-purple; from the Brindle Vineyard at Wilyabrup; a super-elegant cabernet, with fragrant redcurrant and blackcurrant aromas, and great intensity and drive on the perfectly balanced palate; finishes with fine, savoury/chocolatey tannins.''- James Halliday 2011 - Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 Vintage
Tasting Note: A full-flavoured yet finely structured Cabernet of great appeal: black berries, dried leaves and fine gravelly tannin, reflect an outstanding year.
