The Story
Established in 1976, Petaluma is built upon the old-world belief of planting the right varieties for individual vineyards in a specific wine region. The wines of Petaluma are a singular exploration of this founding belief.
The Petaluma team, led by Andrew Hardy, see themselves as ‘custodians of the great vineyards’, with their winemaking in turn responsive and instinctive. This translates into award-winning wines from the best regions of South Australia.
The Wine
Petaluma's Shiraz is grown on a cool high altitude vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. Ripe and spicy it shows blackcurrant fruit characters with hints of black pepper, liquorice and elegant floral notes. A dark, brooding and spicy wine, with dark cherry aromas mould with black fruit nuances and hints of star anise. The palate is equally full and rich, bursting with sweet black fruit and continuing the savoury spiced theme. This sumptuous red wine is a dark, brooding and spicy with a superbly perfumed bouquet, it is clean and fresh, with excellent fruit from the magnificent Adelaide Hills.
“Good colour; an attractive, medium-bodied wine, with good fruit and oak balance and integration; the flavours are in the black and red cherry spectrum, with a dusting of spice and pepper.” James Halliday 2012
Tasting Note: Dark cherry aromas meld with black fruit nuances and hints of star anise. The palate is equally full and rich, bursting with sweet black fruit and continuing the savory spiced theme.
