Briar Ridge Vineyard is a 5 star winery nestled in the Mount View region of the Hunter Valley, a well renowned viticultural area. Originally owned by Murray Robson, the vineyards were first planted in 1972, and known as the ‘Squire Vineyard’. This Iconic Hunter Vineyard was purchased in 1988 by Dr John Davis which makes up one third of his vineyard resources located throughout Australia which also includes Orange in Central NSW and Wrattonbully on the Limestone Coast.
Briar Ridge are one of the leading producers of iconic Hunter Valley wines who have been awarded numerous accolades on both the National and International Wine Show Circuit. This is reinforced by their 5 star rating awarded by Australia’s renowned wine critic James Halliday for 7 consecutive years running from 2011-2017.
With Chief Winemaker ‘Gwyn Olsen’ leading production, their wines have been gaining worldwide acclaim. Gwyn studied Oenology at Roseworthy University in Adelaide, graduating in 2005, completing her first vintage in France, with a further six in New Zealand, and three in the Hunter Valley. She has recently joined an elite group of winemakers after being named DUX of the Australian Wine Research Institute, Advanced Wine Assessment Course 2012.
Gwyn also joins the talents of Living Legend ‘Karl Stockhausen’, a winemaker with over 50 years of experience in producing iconic Hunter Valley wines with 25 of those years working alongside Briar Ridge. Briar Ridge take huge pride in acknowledging Karl’s success by showcasing a range under their brand which typify traditional Hunter Styles; the Karl Stockhausen Signature range includes styles such as Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. In 2007, Karl was officially made a ‘Living Legend’, one of the six inaugural recipients of the Hunter Living Legends Awards.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON Region: Orange, NSW Appearance: Deep red in colour. Aroma: Layered with dried herb notes, blackcurrant and olives. Palate: Dark and brooding, this Cabernet Sauvignon delivers fine silky tannins and is layered with blackcurrants along with brown spice notes of clove and nutmeg. A classic cool climate acidity provides great length and finish. Food Pairing: A great accompaniment to game dishes such as duck or venison.
SHIRAZ Region: Hunter Valley, NSW Appearance: Ruby in colour. Aroma: Spiced aromas of white pepper and bright cassis. Palate: This is an easy drinking and approachable style shiraz filled with red fruit notes of raspberry and blueberry balanced with cocoa like tannins and a juicy finish. Food Pairing: Perfect with venison and gamey meats, big hearty stews and pasta.
SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON Region: Orange & Hunter Valley, NSW Appearance: Pale green straw. Aroma: Passionfruit and guava notes fuse with lemon curd and lemongrass to deliver a crisp complex wine. Palate: This wine is light and crisp with a dry finish. It delivers tropical notes of passionfruit, guava and nettle from the Orange Sauvignon Blanc married with lemon curd, lime and lemongrass flavours of the Hunter Valley Semillon. Food Pairing: This is the perfect wine for summer and a great match for Greek, Caesar or garden salads, fish and poultry dishes.
SEMILLON Region: Hunter Valley, NSW Appearance: Pale straw. Aroma: This Semillon is rich with lemon curd and jasmine blossom. Palate: A lemon sherbet like acidity dances along the palate supporting the lime cordial notes and layered texture. Food Pairing: Enjoy with seafood – a perfect match for fresh prawns and oysters.
VERDELHO Region: Hunter Valley, NSW Appearance: Pale straw with faint green hue. Aroma: A crisp, refreshing wine with tropical fruit notes of guava and melon, followed by hints of mandarin blossom. Palate: This wine is crisp and refreshing with layers of tropical fruits and a thirst quenching finish. Food Pairing: Perfectly matched to Asian or lightly spiced foods.
